Rick Trolsen first travelled to Rio de Janeiro in 2001 with the New Orleans Nightcrawlers Brass Band
for a performance at the “Free Jazz Festival.” This initial visit kindled his interest in Brazilian Choro Music. In 2003, he returned to Brazil for the first of several subsequent visits. These visits also led to the recording of his album “Gringo Do Choro” featuring primarily Choro music from the early part of the 20th century with a few Bossas and Samba’s thrown in. The album was recorded in Rio allowing Rick to include local Brazilian musicians who had grown up with Choro music in their blood. For Rick it was, to say the least, a fantastic and exciting endeavor. Ever since, Rick has occasionally put the band Gringo do Choro together for a gig, but with his many ongoing projects that happens all too rarely. Especially for fans of Rick’s irresistible blend of Brazil and New Orleans music.
Until such time that you, too, can dance along live to Gringo do Choro, please enjoy the following “Made in Brasil” music!
