Nelsort: March of the Native Alien
Neslort ( www.neslort.com ) is an organic alternative jazz / rock small ensemble featuring the compositions of New Orleans trombone wizard Rick Trolsen. This aggregation dashes through a myriad of styles, hidden behind a fat New Orleans groove, undetected by the unsuspecting ear. Neslort originally formed back in 1991, played around New Orleans and made 3 consecutive performances at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, but then disbanded in 1998. Back by popular demand, the group has re-formed and currently has a new CD, "Mystical Scam" released in November 2010 from Lort Music and Threadhead Records.. The music of Neslort pulls from straight ahead rock, middle-eastern, jazz, funk, as well as some group improvisations scattered in amongst the compositions. The music is fun, exhilarating, challenging, and new. It's certainly not meant to be background music!

Neslorchestra at the Mint: Naked Frustration
"Naked Frustration" is the first of several compositions that Rick Trolsen scored for his new large Jazz ensemble Neslorchestra
From the February 2018 debut performance of the seventeen-piece group The New Orleans Jazz Museum at the Old U.S Mint. The Neslorchestra is a Rock & Jazz Big Band for which Rick created “The Primordial Epiphany Suite”. This suite contains six movements of organic, original compositions in Trolsen’s definitive style called ”Primordial Fusion.” Rick has been writing new music and rescoring other recent favorites for this large ensemble during the last two years. W hile new, Neslorchestra also represents an evolutionary extension of Rick’s well regarded group Neslort which features music described within Offbeat as
“strikingly beautiful and well-played, shaped by Trolsen’s angular, chromatically dense arrangements and a level of performance from the band members that takes everything to another level”
The Neslorchestra currently features Janna Saslaw, Ray Moore, Jason Danti, Joe Goldberg, Chris Kohl, Khari Lee Allen, Brent Rose, Kyle Cripps, Eric Bernhardt, Joe Cabral, Ian Smith, Eric Lucero, BJ McGibney, Nick Solnick, Tim Robertson, Bill Richards, and Rick Trolsen himself.
